Things that left me shook week 10
This week has been hell for a multitude of reasons that I am not going to go into on a blog for school, but I will say at least the readings allowed me to distract myself from my own shitty life to the life of others who are also going through shitty times. The Sierra Club sponsored article was a real tear jerker and only cemented my hatred for big business and the bourgeoisie. Honestly, I am tired of the narrative that supports and surrounds big business like a metal cocoon. It is clear to everyone and their momma that big businesses have been fucking over people to boost their own profit for decades. I just do not understand why people want to protect them, and why people try to argue in defense of these callous monsters. Now, I am a person who is not a supporter of the current prison system but I would gladly support the imprisonment of the CEOs of almost every single god awful big business. I'm tired of the debates, I'm tired of the support, i'm tired of the talking, I want and need action. These are the fuckers who messed up the air quality in my town, these are the people who are responsible for my siblings not being able to go out and enjoy the world, these are the people who constantly fuck over communities like mine all over the South and the Global South, so why do people feel the need to defend them? The fact that people have to write articles about the atrocities that these men have done to the world to even get a word in for the debate is absolutely and positively horrid. I personally believe that making these "business barons" pay every last penny for the damage they have caused isn't even enough, because there will always be a company waiting in the wings to tae their place. We have to make an example of these companies, we just have to.
So now that the anger I've been needing to release is out, let's talk about the actual articles for a minute. The readings for Tuesday were all about how we need to expand and include women and other marginalized voices in the discussion and most importantly in the room where the policy making happens. In honor of Hamilton coming to New Orleans, lets misquote the show for a minute; "Women we get the job done." Also, I loved learning about the female organizations and all the good work they are doing in the environmental justice field, the closest I've been to being ok was reading about that. Thursday's readings were about the guidelines we should follow to create good climate change policies in the United States. I agree with every single point made in that list, no regrets not even a single letter. Also huge fan of "The Case for Climate Reparations" Screw big businesses the CEOs can all rot for all I care.
Key Words:
1) Commoning- the struggle for direct control and direct access over social welath that isnt controlled by the market.
2) Climate Change reparations~ Making the rich companies/countries who have caused most of the harm pay damages to the people who are most affected by climate change for the damage they have caused.
3) Carbon Barons~ The corporations who continuously fuck over the people for profit and power
